How to combat dull looking skin

It is still feeling much like the winter season and with this season comes dry skin. When searching for a moisturizer there are some out there that may work well depending on your skin type. Moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid can help to add moisture into you daily skin care routine. Hyaluronic acid contains hydrating properties that can give your skin a dewy look

Depending on the product type hyaluronic acid may help to keep your skin feeling moisturized. This ingredient acts as a humectant where in the case of dry  weather it may not have enough moisture to pull from the dry environment so it will pull moisture from your skin. This will lead to skin feeling very dry. In some instances hyaluronic acid works best as a moisturizer rather than a serum because moisturizers usually contain emollients and oils that will seal water in.   Usually moisturizes containing hyaluronic acid has light gel like consistency that works well with skin types that don't take well to heavy oil based skin care products.

Your Simple 3 Step Beauty Routine

1. Cleanse.  You may choose a cleanser for your beauty routine based on your skin type. Whether it  be oily, oily combination to combination dry and dry skin, there is a skin care product made especially for you. Some examples and choices for oily and oily combination would be Philosophy's foaming 3 in 1 cleansing gel for face and eyes. What to love about this product is the consistency is a light gel. It is super easy to use. After massaged into face, it will create a lush foam that is then easily rinsed off to reveal a fresh face that does not feel stripped, dry and flakey.

2. Toner. The step in any beauty routine that most are willing to skip. Using a toner without harsh ingredients like witch hazel, will help skin look and feel refreshed The benefits of using a toner is that it helps to prep skin into absorbing beauty products well. Facial moisturizers and facial treatments all have active ingredients that must be properly absorbed into the skin so that their benefits will work better.

Simple's soothing facial Toner is made with natural and gentle ingredients that tones your face and leaves skin looking smooth and hydrated.

3. Moisturizer. Your facial moisturizer prevents skin from overproducing natural oils that can give the skin an oily look and feel. In some cases not moisturizing the skin after cleansing the skin can make it dry and flaky. Using a moisturizer based off your skin type is key to good beauty routine. A common skin type would be oily combination. In this case, a light water based moisturizer with a gel like consistency is a perfect choice of product for an oily combination skin type. Another benefit to moisturizing the skin is to leave a smooth base to apply your makeup afterwards.
Nivea's  Moisturizing day cream is made for different skin types such as normal, and normal and combination.  The day cream leaves skin moisturized and is made with ingredients to smooth and hydrate the surface of the skin and improve appearance.

Each step in this simplified version of your beauty routine has benefits that can be added up to a wonderful skin appearance that leaves skin  moisturized and hydrated

5 Must Haves for Fast Paced Lifstyles!

1.What types of moisturizers are out there and why do you use them?
Depending on weather you are dry or combination or oily there may not be a on size fits all.
There are gel type formulas which allow combination or oily skin types not to break out.
Light weight facial moisturizers also keep skin hydrated  and fresh .

2.What is an effective exfoliator and where do you look for one?
An exfoliator can be mistaken for a facial scrub, however an effective one that contains salicylic acid helps to remove dead skin cells that can clog pores. Clogged pores can lead to pimples.
This type of beauty product comes in the form of a cleanser, cream, moisturizer or serum, The serum works best on combination or oily skin types because it does not leave the skin with an oily residue.
These are most commonly found in drugstores or high end boutiques!

3.What's the difference between micellar water and makeup removers?
Micellar water can be a gentle substitute  as apposed to  facial wipes because most facial wipes  are scented  and can remove natural  oils from your skin's surface making it have a flaky appearance.
Any skin type can use this as a makeup remover and/or to remove oil and dirt from skins' surface.

4.Why use an oil cleanser?
An oil cleanser can be  an effective way  for those who have combination to oily skin types. This type of cleanser  removes dirt and dead skin cells by not drying out your skin an leaving it soft.
Check out my  previous blog posts that  explains a bit more about natural beauty skin care!

5. Should you use sunscreen even in winter?
Sunscreen is used to protect exposed skin from harmful UVB ray which is also during the winter season  you should wear sunscreen.  Clinique's City Block Sunscreen  is an example of a 2 in 1 beauty product because it is light weight and also keeping in mind that you are an on the go busy professional, there is a light coverage that also comes with the it.

Moisturization

Growing up, I was a little less knowledgeable about how my skin worked and why it reacted the way it did with certain types of products. Being a bit more understanding about skin care, I can see through my experience that moisturizers containing high concentrations of fragrances really caused my face to breakout out due to irritation. When my skin was irritated it was usually caused by certain types of ingredients found in many brand name products, which included alcohol and menthol, and much more. Avoiding all of these ingredients however is almost impossible because these large health and beauty companies find that specific ingredients mentioned above are cheap to manufacture. Businesses need to keep their overhead expenses low so that they can make bigger profits.

When you do choose a moisturizer, it should be based on your skin type. Whether that is dry to normal or combination to oily skin, your moisturizer will benefit you best if you take into consideration the consistency/texture and ingredients contained in it. My skin type for example, is combination, which basically means that your t-zone is usually oilier than the rest of your face. My forehead is always the oiliest area of my face and that is where I break out the most. Another thing that I noticed is that right after I’ve cleansed my face is when my skin is the driest. It’s only after a few hours that I notice my forehead getting oily, if I did not moisturize daily. When your skin is stripped of natural oils it may over produce oil to combat the dryness of your skin.

If your skin is dry to normal, it will appreciate a moisturizer that has a creamy consistency that contains beneficial antioxidants to restore and moisturizes that dull appearance it may have. If your skin is combination to oily, it will absorb a moisturizer that has a water based formula, which also contains rich ingredients to help improve the look of your skin. There have been many moisturizers that I have tried that has left my skin looking too greasy and even made my breakouts worse! Yeah, they smelt great and yeah, they weren’t water based, because no, I had no idea that moisturizers weren’t created equal. They’re not. What I currently use is REN’s Clear Calm Replenishing gel cream. For the first week of using the moisturizer, my breakouts were gone and my face was not oily. The moisturizer itself was a light weight white gel like cream. I found that a little went a long way every time I used it, because it absorbed really well.  The only down side was that it was on the pricy side for a moisturizer. I got it from Sephora for $39.00. The only reason I got it was because I had previously gotten samples of one of their skin care lines.

Looking back to the time where I thought slapping more grease on my already greasy face didn’t make much sense to me in helping with my breakouts, I naturally turned to the fastest way that I could get rid of them. So after trying a ton of acne medications that claimed they worked, I settled for Clean and Clear’s persa-gel acne medications. Honestly I’m not even lying when I say that my pimples jumped off my face the next morning. It contains a decent amount of benzoyl peroxide that helps with problem solving acne bacteria. Other acne causing factors will be covered in my next blog. Every Wednesday I will be covering beauty care topics, and common solutions.
